Starting this Wednesday, Green Savers will have a new weekly column from DECO PROteste titled “Sustainable Tip of the Week”, dedicated to guiding consumers toward more conscious choices in daily life. Every Wednesday, the DECO PROteste will share practical advice that helps reduce waste, save energy, and adopt more environmentally friendly habits, always with the clarity and independence that characterize the organization. This collaboration aims to bring readers even closer to simple and effective solutions that make sustainability accessible to everyone. See below the first one.
With Christmas around the corner, the question arises: is a natural tree or an artificial one more sustainable? A study by DECO PROteste analyzed the life cycle of both, and the conclusion is clear: a plastic tree has an environmental impact almost seven times higher than that of a natural pine tree.
But the story doesn’t end here. Your decision could be the most correct one, depending on how you act:
- If you have an ARTIFICIAL tree: The golden rule is to use it! To offset its production and transport impact, the study shows that you should use it for at least seven Christmases. Therefore, take good care of it and resist the temptation to swap it for fashion. The longer it lasts, the more sustainable it will be.
- If you prefer a NATURAL tree: Make sure it has national origin and sustainable production, to support the local economy and prevent deforestation. The best option of all? Buy it in a pot and, after the holidays, plant it in the ground. In this way, it will continue to absorb CO2 for many years.
The most sustainable choice is always the most conscious and durable.
