Do you know what to do with the toys that accumulate year after year, Christmas after Christmas?
If you are thinking of throwing them away to make room for the new ones, think again. There are other children who may inherit them, whether from relatives and friends or even those you do not know. And there are other options to avoid putting toys in the trash or leaving them forgotten in a box: they are like any other object, they have an environmental impact, just like the other wastes with which we do not have a special emotional attachment.
It is difficult, if not impossible, to recycle toys. In fact, across the country, there is a shortage of collection points, as there are for plastics, for example. A warning: although dolls or action figures, for example, are made of plastic, they cannot be directed to the yellow recycling bin, because they are made of very diverse materials, not always recyclable. However, toys such as remote-controlled cars, for example, are WEEE, or Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, and have specific places for their collection.
Donating, exchanging, buying and selling second-hand (provided the toy is in good condition) and repairing are the first options to give new life to toys. Buying and selling second-hand toys is a way to value them.
You can also give them to an institution, which will surely forward them to those in need. Other children, supported by social solidarity institutions, will be able to gain new objects of affection for play.
